This initiative aims at bringing together prominent speakers, on a regular basis, to discuss the trajectory of economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in the CAREC region, the progress achieved, obstacles, and the outlook.
On 30 November 2021, the CAREC Institute held a virtual webinar titled “Impact of COVID-19 on Tourism and Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) in the CAREC region.”
On 23-24 November 2021, the CAREC Institute organized the 5th annual CAREC Think Tanks Development Forum (CTTDF) on the theme of “Economic Corridors: Pathways to Regional Growth” in collaboration with the ADB-PRC Regional Knowledge Sharing Initiative (RKSI) and the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME).
The CAREC Institute, jointly with IsDB and ADB, delivered a webinar on best practices of e-governance on 10 November 2021. This webinar featured the case of Azerbaijan and its public-private partnership called Azerbaijan Service and Assessment Network (ASAN) which provides 140 services by 11 public organizations, 180 services by 30 private organizations, and which was modeled after Estonia’s e-government platform.
On 25 October 2021, the CAREC Institute and the ADB Institute have launched a joint book on unlocking transport connectivity in the trans-Caspian corridor, edited by Dina Azhgaliyeva and Yelena Kalyuzhnova. Participants had a chance to interact with the book contributors.
The CAREC Institute has conducted a country-specific online road safety workshop targeting government officials and road safety experts from Kazakhstan. The virtual workshop was organized around several sessions over three weeks and the first session was held on 12 October 2021.
On 27 July 2021, the CAREC Institute and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) held a roundtable on research and policy trends and prospects for sustainable post-COVID recovery in Central Asia.
The 11th session of the CAREC Institute Governing Council convened on 16 July 2021. The National Focal Point of Azerbaijan Excellency Rovshan Najaf chaired the session attended by representatives of all 11 member countries, also Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Institute staff.
The CAREC Institute in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will hold a two-day webinar on “Using ESCAP’s Online Trade Intelligence and Negotiation Advisor (TINA) for Trade Negotiations” on 7-8 July 2021 at 15:00-17:00 (Beijing Time).
On 25 June 2021, the CAREC Institute and China City Development Alliance hosted a webinar titled “Optimizing Trade and e-Commerce to Bridge the Needs in the CAREC Region.”
On 22 June 2021, the CAREC Institute in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held a webinar on the prospects of integration and cooperation processes on the Euro-Asian continent and the implications for CAREC.
On 21 May 2021, the CAREC Institute conducted a roundtable discussion where our staff engaged with the PRC and ADB experts to present research findings and discuss various aspects of digitalization in the CAREC region. Participants took on topics such as digital CAREC, cross-border e-commerce, regulatory and infrastructure challenges for e-commerce development in CAREC, fintech and financial inclusion, and trade finance.
The TVET practitioners and policy experts from member countries attended the event and shared best practices, practical operational knowledge, and options to optimize TVET programs innovatively.
The CAREC Institute and UNICEF held a webinar on 31 March 2021 to share key takeaways from the research on development of sustainable water and sanitation systems in rural areas of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
On 30 March 2021, the CAREC Institute has delivered a workshop to share preliminary findings of its CAREC road asset management (RAM) maturity assessment and training of trainers (TOT).
The CAREC Institute, as a Secretariat of the CAREC Think Tanks Network (CTTN), held a virtual dialogue on 24 March 2021 where think tank representatives - Center for China and Globalization (CCG), the PRC; Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), Japan; Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Pakistan; Economic Research Institute (ERI), Mongolia; Centre for Economic and Social Development (CESD), Azerbaijan; United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) - shared their experiences of policy support to governments, and deliberated on the strategies to remain relevant in times of crisis.
On 12 March 2021, in a virtual workshop, the CAREC Institute jointly with the Public Opinion Research Institute (Kazakhstan) shared findings of population polls about public attitudes towards vaccines in seven CAREC countries: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The main objective of the conference was to identify means to revisit and rethink past, present, and future of CAREC in the wake of the pandemic and catalyze research on acute topics and produce relevant analytics that could aid CAREC economies stay in the forefront of sustainable development.
The CAREC Institute and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held a joint workshop titled “Modernizing Sanitary-Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures in CAREC and Use of Digital Certification” on 24 February 2021.
