CAREC Institute Participates in 2026 CAREC Senior Officials’ Meeting in Ulaanbaatar

The CAREC Institute (CI) took part in the CAREC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 11 to 12 June 2026.

Hosted by the Government of Mongolia, this key preparatory session for the upcoming 25th CAREC Ministerial Conference gathered senior officials from CAREC member countries and development partners. Participants focused on translating regional cooperation strategies into tangible deliverables, advancing approved cooperation initiatives, and strengthening coordination between development partners and national focal points. All joint efforts aim to further advance the implementation of the CAREC 2030 Strategic Framework and long-term regional cooperation goals.

The CI delegation was led by Director Charymuhammet Shallyyev, with Deputy Directors Dr. Li Kouqing and Dr. Kuat Akizhanov, as well as relevant division chiefs of the Institute in attendance. During official sessions, CI senior management delivered institutional presentations and shared insights in line with the meeting agenda. They elaborated on the Institute’s ongoing work, including policy research, capacity development, and cross-regional knowledge exchange, and provided a brief progress update on the joint Central Asia Transport and Logistics Center with ADB.

On the sidelines of the SOM, the CI delegation held bilateral meetings with senior officials from CAREC member countries and key development partners, including Ms. Erdenetuya Darinchuluun, Director General of the Trade and Economic Cooperation Policy Department under Mongolia’s Ministry of Economy and Development; Mr. Assan Darbayev, Vice Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan; Mr. Abdulla Khashimov, Advisor to the Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, and Mr. Su Junjie, Director of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China. The delegation also engaged with representatives from the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development and the Asian Development Bank.

The bilateral discussions centered on joint research collaboration, support for and participation in the CI’s upcoming flagship events, including the Tianshan Forum and the CAREC Think Tank Development Forum (CTTDF), as well as follow-up work arrangements for the Transport and Logistics Center.

Director Charymuhammet Shallyyev stated: “Our participation in this meeting enabled us to establish closer dialogue with CAREC member countries and development partners. We are grateful for their long-standing support to the Institute. Moving forward, the Institute will continue advancing practical regional cooperation in line with the CAREC 2030 Strategy and the CAREC Institute Strategy 2026–2030.”
