CAREC Institute to Host the Second Leadership Training in Hangzhou on Empowering Education – Harnessing AI for Learning and Digital Transformation

27 Jul - 31 Jul 2026

The CAREC Institute (CI) will host its flagship capacity-building event, the Second Leadership Training, in Hangzhou, China, from July 27 to 31, 2026. Under the theme “Empowering Education: Harnessing AI for Learning and Digital Transformation”, the workshop is co-organized with Zhejiang University’s Centre for International Study on Development and Governance and Institute of Global Development, with support from the Asian Development Bank (co-funded through ADB Technical Assistance 59103-001).

This flagship regional capacity-building program for CAREC member countries was first held in Urumqi in 2025, following the Tianshan Forum for Central Asia Economic Cooperation, and has since become a key starting point for cross-border AI collaboration. Building on the outcomes of the previous workshop, the 2026 training shifts its focus to AI integration in education and digital transformation. It seeks to strengthen multilateral cooperation among member countries and advance inclusive, sustainable development across the CAREC region.

The workshop targets senior government officials from CAREC member countries responsible for national policy planning and implementation in AI and education. Tailored to regional demands for education modernization, digital talent development and cross-border digital cooperation, it will focus on the in-depth integration of AI and education systems, helping participants broaden their strategic vision and enhance capabilities in digital governance and cross-border collaboration.

Participants will explore global AI trends, practical AI education applications and relevant international standards. Through peer dialogue and thematic sessions, they will develop tailored digital education strategies and cross-border cooperation solutions. The program aims to promote digital education, strengthen regional digital capabilities, and foster inclusive, high-standard multilateral cooperation within the region.
