CAREC Institute Strengthens Partnerships with Think Tanks, Universities, and Financial Institutions in Uzbekistan

From 2 to 7 May 2026, a delegation from the CAREC Institute, led by Director Charymuhammet Shallyyev and Deputy Director One Li Kouqing, conducted high-level engagements with leading think tanks, universities, and financial institutions in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to deepen regional cooperation and promote knowledge exchange.

During the visit, the delegation met with representatives from prominent institutions, including the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRS) under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies, and the Representative Office of the Export-Import Bank of China in Uzbekistan.

These meetings focused on expanding practical cooperation in joint research, capacity building, policy dialogue, professional development, and institutional collaboration. Discussions also explored opportunities to strengthen regional connectivity through enhanced knowledge sharing and collaborative initiatives aligned with development priorities in the CAREC region.

The CAREC Institute delegation also visited Westminster International University in Tashkent to discuss preparations for the upcoming CAREC Think Tank Development Forum, which will be held at the university. The forum is expected to convene policymakers, representatives from international organizations, researchers, and development practitioners to exchange insights and strengthen regional cooperation on financial sector development.

In addition, the CAREC Institute, in collaboration with the Center for Foreign Policy Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organized a roundtable discussion titled “Opportunities for Cooperation in Research, Professional Development, and Knowledge Exchange.” The event gathered representatives from local policy research centers and academic institutions to explore closer collaboration and foster stronger regional networks among think tanks and research communities.

The visit reflects the CAREC Institute’s commitment to strengthening partnerships across the CAREC region and supporting evidence-based policymaking through research, dialogue, and capacity development.
