CAREC Institute Delegation Participates in the 59th ADB Annual Meeting
From 3 to 4 May 2026, a delegation from the CAREC Institute, comprising Director Charymuhammet Shallyyev and Deputy Director One Dr. Li Kouqing, participated in the 59th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the CAREC Institute delegation engaged with policymakers, representatives from international organizations, and private sector representatives to exchange views on regional cooperation, sustainable development, and emerging opportunities for collaboration.
On 3 May, Dr. Li Kouqing participated in the session titled “Opportunities for South Asia in a Fragmented World.” In his intervention, Dr. Li shared insights on how regions can strengthen development momentum and deepen regional cooperation amid a transforming global landscape. He emphasized the importance of building resilient supply chains, expanding trade, and advancing effective digital transformation to support sustained, inclusive, and sustainable growth.
The CAREC Institute delegation also held bilateral meetings with representatives of partner organizations, including Dean Bambang Brodjonegoro and Deputy Dean Byungsik Jung of the ADB Institute; Director Yasuto Watanabe and Chief Economist Dong He of ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office; and Asad Aleem, Regional Head for Regional Cooperation and Integration at ADB. The meetings explored potential collaboration in research, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and joint events.
