CAREC Institute Participates in the 2026 Dialogue on Climate Resilience and Green Transition
The CAREC Institute participated in the “Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation: 2026 Climate Resilience and Green Transition Dialogue” held in Jinta, Gansu Province, China. The two-day event gathered more than 100 participants from eight countries and eight international organizations. Participants explored tech-driven green solutions and cross-border cooperation models to support climate adaptation and sustainable development in dryland regions.
The event featured keynote speeches, experience sharing and thematic discussions on climate resilience and rural green development. Charymuhammet Shallyyev, Director of the CAREC Institute, moderated the panel session titled “How Climate Resilience Safeguards the Future of Rural Areas.” Lei Xin, Chief of the Institute’s Knowledge Management Division, joined the panel as a speaker. They exchanged views with peers on regional climate governance and cross-border green cooperation, and introduced the Institute’s initiatives on climate action and inclusive green development.
Field visits were arranged for participants to learn about dryland ecological restoration and smart agriculture. The delegation visited the Ant Forest Project, where medicinal Cistanche is cultivated on the roots of the Saxaul tree. This model curbs desertification, rehabilitates degraded land, protects local ecosystems and raises rural residents’ incomes. The group also visited a modern agricultural park in Jiuquan, which applies smart farming technologies to achieve water-efficient, stable and high-quality crop production. The park also scales up clean energy adoption and agricultural waste recycling to improve rural ecosystems, offering a replicable model for sustainable rural development across arid regions.
“China’s practical and scalable green development models have restored local ecosystems and improved rural livelihoods. These proven practices can help arid regions in Central Asia tackle climate challenges and pursue greener development through closer regional cooperation,” said Director Shallyyev.
The CAREC Institute has long advanced regional climate action and green progress through research, training, and policy dialogue. It will further deepen practical cooperation among member countries, share proven green solutions, and help the region strengthen climate resilience and achieve sustainable growth.
