CAREC Institute is Represented in Uzbekistan’s International Ratings Forum

The Deputy Director Two of the CAREC Institute Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev made a presentation in the Third International Ratings Forum, organized by Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan on May 7, 2022.

The Forum focused on taking the stock of the past three years and discussed the priorities of future reforms in Uzbekistan. The focus of the Forum was on the impact of reforms and international rankings, solving environmental problems, creating new opportunities through social awareness, analyzing existing barriers to the digital economy, economic challenges in the reform programs, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

During his presentation Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev spoke about environmental challenges of Central Asia such as water issues, land and ecosystem degradation, waste generation, climate change and institutional shortcomings, and stated about progress of the CAREC environmental cooperation in overcoming these challenges. Dr. Abdullaev called for closer collaboration among the countries of Central Asia to implement joint long-term programs on technical support, investment, facilitation of dialogues, exchange of experience, technology transfer, institutionalized cooperation, and policy improvement.

The Forum’s sessions were hosted by expert economists and government officials, where they highlighted the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan in each relevant sector, talked about existing problems and suggested possible solutions. Previous Forums were held in 2019 and 2020 to improve Uzbekistan’s position in priority international ratings and indices.
