CAREC Institute Director Dr. Charymuhammet Shallyyev Highlights Deepening China-Central Asia Economic Integration Ahead of China-Central Asia Summit

In a recent interview with CGTN, Charymuhammet Shallyyev, Director of the CAREC Institute, emphasized the increasing importance of economic integration between China and Central Asian countries, as the region prepares for the China-Central Asia Summit to be held in Kazakhstan on June 16.

Director Shallyyev noted that economic integration goes beyond mere economic linkages, highlighting that the China-Central Asia partnership within the framework of South-South cooperation is playing a crucial role in enhancing connectivity and unlocking trade and growth potential across Eurasia. “Central Asia is one of the most important regions for China in terms of economics, and China’s role in the region continues to expand,” he said.

China has established itself as a key trade partner for all Central Asian nations, providing significant investment, particularly in the energy sector. In return, Central Asian countries have actively supported China’s major initiatives, including the revitalization of the Belt and Road Initiative, and cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, education, and tourism.

Recent memorandums of understanding between China and Central Asian states, especially in the digital economy, reflect a shared commitment to building a China-Central Asia community with a shared future. Director Shallyyev also commended China’s proactive fiscal policies, prudent monetary approach, and consistent economic strategies, which have contributed to regional development.

Additionally, he praised the CAREC Institute for its dedication to academic excellence, talent development, and the production of original research, positioning it as a significant contributor to regional progress.

The upcoming summit is expected to further deepen economic cooperation and promote sustainable growth across China and Central Asia.
