Seminar on Overcoming Difficulties to Pursue Common Development

From 6 to 9 December 2021, Cambridge University Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) COMPASS Central Asia Forum held a conference on connectivity in the Eurasian region in partnership with the CAREC Institute.

Participation in the 18th Western China International Fair

On 16 September 2021, Dr. Liang Ziqian, Deputy Director One of the CAREC Institute, was invited to participate in an opening ceremony of the 18th Western China International Fair (WCIF) and the 10th Western China International Cooperation Forum.

Participation in Climate Security Seminar with Germany’s International Diplomatic Academy, Adelphi, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany

On 13 August 2021, the CAREC Institute Deputy Director Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev attended the climate security seminar organized by Adelphi think tank (Berlin) for Germany’s International Diplomatic Academy. Dr. Abdullaev presented the current trends in climate change in Central Asia, and talked about growing water scarcity, and increasing need for investment in the water sector, also shared findings from the Institute’s recent publications on these topics.

Participation in WEF’s Roundtable on the Role of Trade, Investment, and Development Agencies

The CAREC Institute Director Syed Shakeel Shah was invited to participate in a roundtable on the role of trade, investment, and development agencies (TIDAs) in kickstarting post-COVID recovery organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on 5 July 2021. The meeting attempted to identify priority areas and actions for TIDAs to accelerate recovery, discuss how public-private cooperation can advance these areas and actions, and determine how the Forum can support the process.

Participation in Astana Finance Days

The CAREC Institute Director Syed Shakeel Shah was invited to present at a panel session on financial inclusion organized by the CAREC Secretariat during Astana Finance Days on 1 July 2021.

Participation in the 20-Year Anniversary of SCO

On 24-25 June 2021, the CAREC Institute Deputy Director One Dr. Liang Ziqian was invited by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the SCO to discuss post-pandemic reality and cooperation opportunities between SCO and CAREC.

On 24 June 2021, the CAREC Institute Deputy Director Two Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev was invited to present at a webinar titled “Multilateral Development Banks as Key Partners in Promoting Regional Cooperation and Integration” hosted by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

MOU with the International Finance Forum (IFF)

The CAREC Institute and the International Finance Forum (IFF) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 30 May 2021 in Beijing to cooperate for fostering green growth and sustainable infrastructure in Central Asia.

Blue Peace Process Webinar on Water Management in Central Asia

The CAREC Institute Deputy Director Two Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev participated in a webinar organized in the framework of the program titled “Water as a driver of sustainable recovery: economic, institutional and strategic aspects of water resources management in Central Asia,” supported by the Blue Peace of Central Asia initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Stockholm International Water Institute, with attendance of experts from sector ministries of Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan; EU, GIZ, and academia.

The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute has organized the fourth CAREC Think Tanks Development Forum (CTTDF) in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Regional Knowledge Sharing Initiative (RKSI) and International Economics and Finance Institute (IEFE) of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on 27-28 August 2019 with a theme of “Trading for Shared Prosperity” in one of the ancient cities and starting points of the Silk Road, Xian, Shaanxi Province, the PRC.
