The CAREC Institute, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Xiamen National Accounting Institute will hold a joint workshop on food safety network during 6-7 November 2019 in Xiamen, the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The participants will include middle and senior-level officials from relevant ministries and agencies of CAREC members responsible for and involved in the design and implementation of policies, programs, strategies, and projects related to the food safety network.
Today, intensifying trade and engaging in regional and global value chains without food safety standards is inconceivable. Safety, quality, and authenticity of food identified by standards gives full confidence of food safety to consumers, producers, and governments.
The regional food safety initiative implies setting up the CAREC food safety network which can support harmonization of standards, technical regulations, conformity assessment regimes, and information sharing to build capacity in food inspection and certification. The network can help the relevant national referral laboratories carry out food safety risk assessments and provide analytical services to other members in the network. The European Food Safety Authority and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Food Safety Network could serve as a good model for replication for the CAREC food safety network.
The workshop aims to deepen understanding of mentioned issues, share best practices and country experiences, and propose policy actions.
