Uzbekistan

Located between the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers, Uzbekistan possesses some of the most favorable natural and geographic conditions in the Central Asia region. It has rich deposits of minerals especially gold, copper, and uranium as well as organic fuel particularly natural gas and oil. Uzbekistan has unique agricultural resources and is one of the world's biggest producers of cotton.

Economic Outlook

The highlight from the Asian Development Outlook 2010:
The government responded to the recent global financial and economic crisis with a well structured and timed anticrisis program. The program substantially increased domestic investment to create employment opportunities that offset the impact of the crisis on exports. The government has strengthened its efforts to diversify the economy through the private sector. Further acceleration of sector modernization will help greater private sector mobilization. The recovery of the global economy will improve external demand, providing an opportunity to accelerate reforms. Read more.
