CAREC Corridor 3 connects the Russian Federation to South Asia and the Middle East through Central Asia.


Russian Federation to South Asia and the Middle East

CAREC Corridor 3 connects the Russian Federation to the Persian Gulf. The corridor passes through Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan.

A series of investment and technical assistance projects along the Corridor are underway.

Corridor 3-a

From Merke in Kazakhstan, this corridor continues to Saryagash. It then passes through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Finally, it enters Iran at Sarakhs and continues on to Bandar-Abbas on the Persian Gulf. This is a road/rail corridor that requires a gauge change at Sarakhs. RUS Rubtsovsk

From Merke in Kazakhstan, the corridor enters the Kyrgyz Republic at Chaldovar, Tajikistan at Karamik, and Uzbekistan at Sarayasia. It continues on to Airatom, where it crosses into Afghanistan at Hairatan, and enters Iran at Dogharoun. The route proceeds to Bandar-Abbas on the Persian Gulf. This corridor is also a road/rail corridor except for the portion in Afghanistan, where only road is available. RUS Rubtsovsk
