CAREC Corridor 2

CAREC Corridor 2 connects East Asia with the Mediterranean and southern Europe. Trade has been expanding along this corridor in recent years with implementation of the People's Republic of China's "go west" policy.


Linking the Mediterranean and East Asia

CAREC Corridor 2 connects the Caucasus and Mediterranean to East Asia. The route covers Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the Kyrygz Republic, and the People's Republic of China.

A series of investment and technical assistance projects along the Corridor are underway.

This corridor includes rail/road car ferry service across the Caspian Sea to Aktau in Kazakhstan and continues through Beyneu, crossing into Uzbekistan at Karakalpakya. The route continues on to Bekabad, crosses into Tajikistan, and traverses back to Uzbekistan. It continues on to the Kyrgyz Republic, and then into the PRC at Yierkeshitan and proceeds toward the eastern ports of the PRC. GEO Gabdabani(rail)

This corridor uses the rail/road car ferry to Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan. The route continues from Turkmenbashi to Ashgabat/Farap before entering Uzbekistan at Alyat, passing through Bukhara/Navoi where it then follows the same routing as Corridor 2a. GEO Gabdabani (rail)
